The Retro Villa Escudero

If you want to travel back to Spanish era, enjoy nature tripping, Villa Escudero is where you should be. A hundred acre land founded by Don Placido Escudero and wife, Doña Claudia Marasigan in 1872. It was orginally a sugar cane plantation, converted to coconut now a popular tourist destination in Tiaong, Quezon opened to public in 1981.

Escudero’s Ancestral house

I had a chance to visit this place during a wedding event 2018, and yes, it was a time travel. Villa Escudero is packed with activities for nature lovers. Visitors experience a carabao cart or an old bus ride to resort area, surrounded by park-like, well landscaped garden setting while being serenaded by locals. So how cool is that huh?!

Our taxi for the day

Inside is a small community that operates the place. There’s church, museum ,which I would say the creepiest structure that hosts antiques collections from coins, suits, religious items, statues of late 1800s. Photography strictly prohibited inside.

The best part is dinning in an al fresco setup restaurant where tables are situated below the spillway of water while diners enjoy their lunch dipped in the flowing calf-deep water.

Rapids and the lunch

Other attractions include an authentic live cultural dance show. The resort has since expanded offering accommodations, more restaurants, sports facilities, and a conference center. There is a swimming pool as well that the whole family can enjoy.

Although we find the day tour quick expensive (Php 1,450 / person), you can really have your relaxing day in this place. This is inclusive of:

  • welcome drink
  • museum tour
  • carabao cart ride
  • use of outdoor recreational facilities
  • lunch at the waterfalls (not buffet)

We’ll keep coming back, highly recommended for everyone.

Travel Tips:

  • Would recommend to set a booking or simply call the information before going to check on the availability of date(s) preferred
  • You can opt for a walk in or via public transportation, just ensure you pack light.
  • Best time to be here is of course before lunch of weekdays so you can enjoy the quick tour without the crowd queue.
  • When dining in the waterfall, ensure to keep an eye to your personal belongings, kids, and companions as there can be a flock of visitors coming in. Take extra careful when walking in a knee deep water as it is very slippery.
